Description

Foster Carer Reviews

Training workshop with Bridget McDonagh

We are very pleased to offer IFCA members who are foster carers the opportunity to take part in a training workshop to support you in how you can best participate in foster care reviews. The workshop will provide participants an opportunity to receive information, share experiences, ask questions and learn from each other.

Aim of workshop: to support foster carers in how they can best participate in the reviews of their continuing capacity to provide high quality foster care and to assist with the identification of gaps in the fostering service as set out in Standard 17 of the National Standards for Foster Care.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop, it is hoped that you will:

  • understand the purpose and process of foster carer reviews

  • be able to identify the pro-active steps that you can take to prepare in advance, and be an active participant during your own foster carer review to ensure it is done with you as opposed to about you

  • know who is being asked to provide written contributions to your review and what social workers do with this information about you

  • understand the steps you can take if you consider you have been misunderstood in the process or misrepresented in the reports.
